`Days of India’ festival opens in Germany

India today launched the `Days of India in Germany' festival to commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The celebrations opened on the 823rd Harbour Birthday of the Hamburg Port on 11 May.

India's minister of commerce, industry and textiles Anand Sharma accompanied by German minister Frank Horch inaugurated the India Festival at the India Pavilion by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Earlier in the day, Sharma held bilateral trade talks with senator for economy, innovation and transport Frank Horch, at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. The minister was accompanied by a high-powered CII delegation.

He also met the first mayor of Hamburg Olaf Scholz and discussed bilateral issues, including increasing trade and economic links, cooperation in science and technology, education and vocational training.

The mayor of Hamburg hosted an exclusive traditional lunch at the Emperor's Hall of the Town Hall.

India as the partner country for the Hamburg Port Festival made its presence felt to the citizens of Hamburg and other German and international visitors with the port call of INS Tej.
