Consumer price inflation for agricultural and rural labourers up in July

Consumer price inflation based on the all-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural and rural labourers increased to 8.61 per cent and 8.94 per cent, respectively, in July 2012 from 8.03 per cent and 8.54 per cent in the previous month.
Inflation based on food index of agricultural workers (CPI-AL) and rural workers (CPI-RL) stood at 7.35 per cent and 7.50 per cent, respectively during July 2012. official figures released on Friday showed.
The all-India consumer price index numbers for agricultural labourers and rural labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for July 2012 increased by 10 points each to at 656 points (agricultural labourers) and 658 points (rural Labourers), respectively.
The rise in index varied from state to state. In the case of agricultural labourers, the increase varied between 3 and 17 points in the 20 states. Haryana and Maharashtra with 730 points each topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 538 points stood at the bottom.
In the case of rural labourers, the index recorded an increase between 3 and 17 points in the 20 states. Haryana with 724 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 561 points stood at the bottom.
Consumer price index for agricultural and rural labourers in Uttar Pradesh registered the maximum increase of 17 points each mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, bajra, pulses, chillies green, vegetables and fruits, gur, bidi and firewood.
