Industry bounces back with 8.8 % growth in June output

Industrial production in the country bounced back logging an 8.8-per cent growth in June against a nine-month-low 5.6 per cent growth registered in the previous month.

The expansion was aided by a 10-per cent growth in manufacturing output and a 7.5 per cent growth in electricity generation.

The index of industrial production (IIP) estimated under the revised series (base 2004-05=100) stood at 170.3, showing an 8.8 per cent growth from the June 2010 level, quick estimates released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) showed.

Cumulative growth for the period April-June 2011-12 stood at 6.8 per cent year-on-year.

Production indices for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for June 2011 stood at 126.0, 182.1 and 144.3, respectively, up 0.6 per cent, 10 per cent and 7.9 per cent, respectively, from June 2010.

The three sectors recorded cumulative year-on-year growth rates of 1.0 per cent, 7.5 per cent and 8.2 per cent, respectively, during April-June 2011-12 over the corresponding period of 2010-11.
