Direct tax collections up Rs104,136 crore first quarter

Gross direct tax collections during the April - June 2011 quasrter rose by 23.91 per cent to Rs104,136 crore up from Rs84,041 crore during the same period last year.

Collection of corporate taxes was up by 23.49 per cent to Rs68,223 crore, up from Rs55,244 crore April - June 2010.

Gross collection of personal income tax rose by 24.63 per cent which to Rs35,859 crore, from  Rs28,772 crore during the same period last year.

However, due to an increase of 205.01 per cent in tax refunds, net tax collections declined from Rs68,675 crore to Rs57,268 crore.

Tax refunds almost tripled to Rs46,868 crore as against Rs.15,366 crore in April - June 2010.
