Former SC judges Jeevan Reddy and MB Shah to head SIT on black money

Criticising the government over its tardy efforts on the issue of black money, the Supreme Court today appointed retired justices Jeevan Reddy and MB Shah, to head the special investigative team (SIT) on black money.
The court set up the special investigation team led by the two retired judges to probe the black money after having repeatedly accusing the union government of dragging its feet in the matter.
The centre had opposed the setting up of an SIT, on the plea that a probe by an outsider would result in lack of accountability.
The court has been monitoring the government's probe into black money stashed away in foreign banks.
On a petition filed by senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani to direct the centre to bring back the black money, the court is also expected to pass an order on revealing names of 26 Indians who kept black money in LGT bank. The centre has also opposed revealing the names of 26 account holders saying it would violate bi-lateral agreements.
Instead, it has handed over the names to the court in a sealed cover.
