Indian business model could help fight recession: UK envoy

The Indian business model could help the world business out of the current recessionary phase, British high commissioner to India Richard Stagg has said.

"The Indian business model can help shape the environment globally. The UK is keen to understand how it works and what drives it," Stagg told reporters on the sidelines of a function at IIM-Shillong.

Stagg, said there was big interest among business schools in the UK to partner with Indian institutes, adding, potential collaborations are currently under discussion.

"UK business schools could work with IIMs to have environment-friendly business practices, the British envoy said, adding Britain was keen to involve UK business schools in sustainable development.''

Stagg inaugurated Shillong IIM's `Accelerated Learning Centre' (ALC), the management school's first on-line and campus programme in sustainable global enterprise and e-marketing. 

Educational cooperation between UK business schools and IIM, Shillong, would benefit both the countries, he said.

The students of IIM-Shillong has started a `Mentorship Program - IIM Shillong', to reach out to more than 600 students who received calls from IIM Shillong and registered for the MBA programme. The 64 students of the first batch, currently undergoing internships, have been helping these students in terms of what they should expect from the GD/PI process. The program has a pan-India reach with huge responses from NCR, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai, according to an IIM-A release.
