Dearborn, USA: The Ford Motor Company on Thursday announced several major changes to its top-level executive team elevating longtime Ford executive John Parker, 59, group vice president of Asia-Pacific and Africa operations, to executive vice president, with the same responsibilities. It also announced the retirement date for Cisco Codina, Ford group vice president, North America Marketing, sales and service.

"With John [Parker] leading the way, Ford is poised for fast growth in Asia," Alan Mullaly, chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Parker, a UK native, has vast experience of the Asia-Pacific region having joined Ford South Africa in 1965. Subsequently he worked for a time at Ford Australia and served as president of Ford India from 1994-''98.

In 2002, he served as president of Ford''s ASEAN Operations, covering operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.

The move probably reflects Ford''s recognition of the rising importance of Asia even as the region boasts of hosting seven of the world''s top ten economies.

Meanwhile, Ford has also announced its search for a chief marketing officer. Setting 1 November as the retirement date for Codina, a company statement said Ford is "beginning an immediate search for his replacement."
