Narayana and Sudha Murthy conferred Yashwantrao Chavan award for 2006

Mumbai: Infosys co founder Narayan Murthy and his wife Sudha have been conferred the Yashwantrao Chavan award for 2006. They were felicitated by union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar at a function held in Mumbai.

Speaking after receiving the Narayana Murthy said, while agriculture had created a million jobs, the decline in agricultural growth was a matter of concern. He suggested that the problem of declining agricultural productivity should be jointly addressed the government and industry.

"Indians who depend on agriculture for their sustenance are asking whether this is globalisation," Murthy said.

Sudha Murthy, in her acceptance speech, announced that the couple was contributing an additional Rs3 lakh to the award amount of Rs2 lakh to donate to a Solapur-based organisation working for conducting the last rites on unclaimed bodies.
