Imran Khan summoned by accountability bureau on graft charges

Imran Khan, who is all set to take over as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, has been summoned for questioning by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which is probing charges that he misused official helicopters.
The chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has been called by the NAB for the hearing on Tuesday. Khan, whose PTI has emerged as the single-largest party in elections, is likely to be sworn in as Prime Minister on 14August,which is Pakistan’s Independence Day, or 15 August.
Khan had been summoned last month by the NAB, but he failed to turn up as he was busy with the elections. He had suggested August 7 as the date when he could appear before the bureau.
The cricketer-turned-politician is being probed for the misuse of government helicopter for over 72 hours in 2013 after his party came to power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. Khan claims that the charges were politically motivated.
The NAB has already recorded the statements of KP chief minister Pervez Khattak and aviation authorities in the province.
The PTI, with 115 seats in the National Assembly, has emerged as the single-largest party in elections held on 25 July.
