India's widening trade deficit of over $20 billion with China is likely to come up for discussion when the commerce ministers of the two countries meet in Beijing on 19 January.

Commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma and his Chinese counterpart Chen Dimng will attend the meeting of the Joint Economic Group (JEG) where the issue would be discussed.

According to an Indian commerce ministry official, the increasing trade gap was a cause for concern.

India's imports from China is over three times its exports to that country, according to 2008-09 data.

The issue had earlier been taken up by prime minister Manmohan Singh with Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, during the last East Asian Summit in Thailand in October.
