India has sought to import higher quantities of crude oil from Nigeria in the coming years. The country is also interested in tying up LNG supplies from that country.

With significant expansion in India's refining capacity, India would require around 18 million tonnes of Nigerian crude annually from 2012-13 onwards, minister for petroleum and natural gas S Jaipal Reddy said today.

Reddy indicated this at a meeting with Henry Odien Ajumogobia, minister of foreign affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in New Delhi today.

India imported 13.2 million tonnes of crude oil from Nigeria in 2009-10.

Ajumogobia is in Delhi in connection with Indo-Nigeria Joint Commission meeting as its co-chairman.

Regarding LNG, Reddy said India is interested in tying up LNG imports from Nigeria on an urgent basis, as the country's requirement of LNG is projected to go up by 12 to 15 million tonnes per annum in the near future.
