Core sector projects worth Rs42,370 crore completed

Chennai: One hundred and sixteen central government sponsored infrastructure projects worth over Rs.42,370 crore were completed between May 2004 to April 2005. According to a report of the ministry of statistics and programme implementation, the maximum number of projects completed during the period were 31 in the road transport and highways sector, followed by 27 railway projects, 13 in the shipping and port sector 12 and 11 projects in the coal and power sectors respectively.

Other sectors that have also completed a number of projects are five in petroleum, four in telecommunication, three each in urban development and civil aviation, two each in mines and steel and one each in atomic energy, fertilisers and information and broadcasting sectors.

This is almost double the number of projects completed in the 14 sectors, compared with 59 during May 2003 to April 2004, with the final cost being over Rs13,897 crore.
