Government-level deal for interception of BlackBerry services?

New Delhi: India may look for a special "government-to-government" agreement with Canada for access to all BlackBerry services, including its enterprise mail, following significant differences over interception of such services between its security agencies and the manufacturer Research-In-Motion (RIM).

The United States and Canada share such a pact.

Such an agreement would make it mandatory for RIM to share any information sought by Indian security agencies.

The possibility has been discussed with the Canadian national security advisor who visited New Delhi some time ago and government officials in Delhi said it was a feasible proposition.

According to sources, RIM provides all interception facilities to the US under a "government-to-government" agreement.
