17 Dec 2007
New Delhi: The government of India has renewed the multi-million dollar contract of Washington lobbying firm, Barbour Griffith & Rogers. The contract has been renewed keeping in mind the passage of the Indo-US nuclear deal through the US Congress as well as various international forums.
The firm has ex-US ambassador to India, Robert Blackwill, as one of its distinguished partners. The firm will be India's sole lobbyist in the US for 2008, its second consecutive year.
The appointment has been made keeping in mind the days ahead when the 123 agreement is expected to go back to the US Congress for an up-down vote in a Democrat-dominated Congress.
Blackwill has earned the confidence of the Indian establishment and enjoys considerable ease of access in New Delhi, with the ruling Congress, and the principal opposition Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
