Mumbai: Indo-German Training Centre (IGTC), the educational wing of Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), recently announced the appointment of Charu Singh as the new director for IGTC.

A post-graduate in fine arts, Meerut University, Singh earlier led Priyadarshini Academy as its chief executive officer with her leadership qualities and executional skills.

Says IGCC director general Dr Guenter Krueger: "Singh brings with her a strong background and understanding of the higher educational system in India. We are pleased to have her in IGTC and look forward to her contributions and involvement in IGTC."

IGTC is the educational endeavour of IGCC and is one of the earliest ISO 9002-certified educational institutes in India. Established in 1991, with active cooperation of the German government and the prestigious Berufsakademie, Karlsurhe, Germany, IGTC offers a unique educational system based on the dual system of higher education, involving alternating study in the classroom with on-the-job training in multinational companies who are participating members of IGTC.

Says Singh: "I am very excited to be on board. IGTC emphasises on practice-oriented business administration education and our PGDBA course offers an attractive alternative to traditional MBA courses. I look forward to the 12th batch commencing on 30 September 2002."

The dual-system involves the integration of companies as an active partner into the system of imparting higher education, leading to specially qualified managers, who have hands-on experience of working in the real world of business and industry.

Some of the member companies who have actively participated in providing practical training are Aventis Crop Science (India) Ltd, Bayer (India) Ltd, Clariant Colour-Chem Ltd, German Remedies Ltd, KSB Pumps Ltd, Daimler Chrysler India Pvt Ltd, Epcos India Pvt Ltd, Mettler-Toledo India Pvt Ltd and MICO Bosch.

The dual system is now internationally adopted as Cooperative Education, with former US president Bill Clinton implementing this in the states of Florida, North and South Carolina and New Hampshire. Countries like China and Israel, as also various partnering institutions all over the world, are implementing it widely.

Established in 1956, the IGCC has been doing pioneering work in promoting Indo-German business relationship. IGCC is the biggest German bi-national chamber in the world. Headquartered at Mumbai, IGCC also has offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, and has a liaison office in Dusseldorf and representative offices in Hyderabad and Berlin.

IGTC has now announced admission for its 12th batch of PGDBA course, which will include six months of solid practical training in member companies. The open house for the course starting on 30 September 2002 is at IGTC premises on 19 August 2002.
