CII to host an interactive Session on Value added tax

Confederation of Indian Industry, better known as CII, is hosting an interactive session on the value added tax system or VAT, which is scheduled to replace sales tax in the States by April 2002. VAT would no doubt improve competitiveness of trade and industry. However, there seems to be a lack of awareness and clarity on the part of industry on a number of issues relating to VAT. The session, to be held on 2 August at 0930 hours at Roof Top, Hotel Oberoi Towers, Mumbai will help understand the current status of VAT and its implications.
CII has invited Mr. S Narayan, secretary - revenue, Government of India, to address the session. It has also approached Dr Mahesh Purohit, senior fellow -National Institute of Public Finance & Policy; Mr. Anupam Dasgupta, principal secretary - finance, Government of Maharashtra; Mr. Swadhin Kshatriya, commissioner of sales tax Government of Maharashtra and Mr. Rajeev Dimri, partner Arthur Andersen to address the session.
