Mumbai: The State Bank of Indias (SBI) top official in the Bengal region, S K Gupta, is under investigation for his role at SBI Home Finance in the nineties, when he was acting as managing director of the associate.

The investigations were launched earlier this month, and the bank has decided to withhold Guptas post-retirement benefits, pending a clean chit from the investigators.

Gupta, who is scheduled to retire from SBI on 31 January, was the acting managing director of SBI Home Finance for one year from August 1994.

SBI, in a letter dated 24 January 2002, has informed the chief general manager that he will not get his post-retirement benefits, save for his own provident fund contributions, till he is cleared by SBIs own vigilance wing as well as by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
