Leeladhar appointed RBI deputy governor

Mumbai: V. Leeladhar, chairman and managing director, Union Bank of India and chairman, Indian Banks' Association, has been appointed deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India with immediate effect.

Leeladhar received the notification from the union government and is expected to take charge on Tuesday. The appointment is for a period of four years.

Leeladhar has been the CMD of Union Bank of India for the past four years since April 24, 2000.

Prior to this, he was the chairman and managing director of Vijaya Bank, from April 23, 1997. This deputy governor's post had been lying vacant since Vepa Kamesam retired in December 2003.
