Yet another earthquake on Saturday, measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, hit Nepal and the neighbouring region of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as aftershocks of the violent 25 April Nepal earthquake.

The strong tremors sent people into a panic today evening. The earthquake, which was felt in Patna and other parts of the state, is reported to have claimed 10 lives across Bihar and UP but damage of property due the quake is yet to be assessed.

The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit Nepal on Saturday, about 76 km east south-east of the capital Kathmandu, at a shallow depth of 10 km. This, in turn, shook the Indian states too.

The earthquake in Bihar was felt at 5.04 pm, director of state meteorological department A K Sen said, adding it had its epicentre in Nepal at a depth of 10 km.

The earthquake rattled parts of West Bengal, Sikkim and UP as well.

Reports said the temblor was experienced in Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Kisanganj, East Champaran, Lakhisarai, Munger and many other parts of Bihar. Citizens rushed out of their houses in fear.

Earlier, at 9.09 am, a temblor measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale was experienced by the state.
