Mumbai: China''s foreign trade is expected to touch $2.1 trillion in 2007, registering a growth of 23.6 per cent over the year-earlier level of $1.76 trillion, according to the ministry of commerce.

In 2006, China''s foreign trade stood at $1.76 trillion, up 23.6 per cent year-on-year, ranking third in the world.

China, ranking third in world trade, saw its external trade grow rapidly since the beginning of the year, the report says.

Foreign sales of machinery, electronics, textiles and clothing and footwear posted sustained growth.

Trade with major partners, including the EU, the US and Japan, has increased continuously.

China realised $457.7 billion in foreign trade in the first quarter of this year, up 23.2 per cent from a year earlier. The trade surplus soared 99.4 per cent to $46.4 billion. The report believes the overall environment is still favourable for China''s foreign trade.
