Tata Electronics on Thursday announced the completion of a technology transfer agreement with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), under which the South Korean Semiconductor manufacturer will license Tata Electronics with a broad range of chip technologies.

PSMC also, on Thursday, entered into a definitive agreement to provide design and construction support for Tata Group’s AI-enabled fab unit in Dholera, Gujarat.

The Dholera fab unit, when completed, will have a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month with a wide portfolio that included 28nm, 40nm, 55nm, 90nm & 110nm nodes.

The plant will use next generation automation technologies and tools like data analytics and machine learning to optimize production.

These wafers have a range of applications, including power management, display drivers, microcontrollers and high-performance computing logic, which find increasing demand in AI, automotive, computing and data storage, and wireless communication.

Construction work on the RS91,000-crore ($11 billion) project is slated to begin this year and the Dholera project, according to Tata Group, will create over 1,00,000 skilled jobs and make India a key partner in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Top officials of Tata Sons and PSMC on Thursday had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shared updates on the semiconductor manufacturing project.

It may be noted that the signing of the agreement and the meeting with the prime minister comes days after India and the US tied up for a semiconductor fabrication and research project in India.
