Barely two months after an elevated track collapsed in south Delhi's Zamrudpur area killing six people and injuring around 20 workers, another accident involving two heavy cranes hit Delhi Metro construction site. However, nobody was injured this time round, authorities said.

Two cranes collapsed at the Saket Delhi Metro station site of the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) around 12.15 pm on Saturday while a bigger crane was lifting a smaller one, reports quoting eyewitnesses said.

However, loss of life was averted as the crane fell inside the construction site enclosure, reports said, adding, around 30 workmen were present at the site when the accident occurred.

The upturned crane, being operated by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at the under-construction Saket Metro station of DMRC, was hired from Global Hydraulic Sales.

The crane was manufactured in 2006 and was certified for fitness for operations, DMRC sources said.

The Saket station is on the Metro route that will link Connaught Place to Gurgaon in neighbouring Haryana. The line is set to open in March 2010.

On July 12, an elevated Metro track collapsed in south Delhi's Zamrudpur area killing six people and injuring around 20 workers. A day later, a crash caused by cranes involved in relief operations there injured six people.
