India’s core sector output up 7.5% on October

Core sector industrial production in the country expanded by 7.5 per cent year-on-year in October 2021 on the bck of improved performance by sectos like coal, natural gas and cement, provisional data released by the commerce ministry showed.

The combined index of the eight core sector industries, including coal, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity for the April-October 2021-22 period increased by 15.1 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Final growth rate of the eight core sector industries for July 2021 has been revised to 9.9 per cent from its provisional level 9.4 per cent on the basis of updated production figures. 
Production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the combined index, increased by 14.6 per cent in October 2021 over October 2020. Cumulative production of coal increased by 12.2 per cent during April-October 2021-22 over corresponding period of the previous year.
Production of crude (weight of 8.98 per cent in the index) declined by 2.2 per cent in October 2021 over October,2020, while cumulative production of crude oil declined by 2.8 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent in the index) increased by 25.8 per cent in October 2021 over October 2020 while cumulative production of natural gas increased by 22.6 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in the index) increased by 14.4 per cent in October 2021 while cumulative refinery throughput increased by 11.7 per cent during April- October 2021-22.
Production of fertilizers  (weight of 2.63 per cent in the index) increased by 0.04 per cent in October 2021 while cumulative production of fertilisers decreased by 1.1 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
Production of steel (weight of 17.92 per cent in the index) increased by 0.9 per cent in October 2021 over October 2020 while cumulative steel production increased by 28.6 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
Production of cement (weight of 5.37 per cent in the index) increased by 14.5 per cent in October 2021 while cumulative production of cement increased by 33.6 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in the index) increased by 2.8 per cent in October 2021 while cumulative power generation increased by 11.3 per cent during April-October 2021-22.
