India's core sector industrial production up 11.6% in August

Core sector industrial production in the country, based on the index of eight core sector industrial production, increased by 11.6 per cent in August 2021 compared to the index for August 2020, provisional data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, showed. 

Production in the eight core sector industries comprising coal, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity, increased by 19.3 per cent during April-August 2021-22 compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
Final growth rate of the index of eight core sector industries for May 2021 now stands revised to 16.4 per cent from its provisional level 16.8 per cent.
Within the core sector, production of coal, which has a weight of 10.33 per cent in the index, increased by 20.6 per cent in August 2021, while coal production increased by 12.5 per cent during April-August 2021-22 year-on-year.
Production of crude oil (weight of 8.98 per cent in the index) declined by 2.3 per cent in August 2021 while cumulative production declined by 3.2 per cent during April-August 2021-22.
Production of natural gas (weight of 6.88 per cent in index) increased by 20.6 per cent in August 2021 while its cumulative production increased by 21.0 per cent during April-August 2021-22.
Petroleum refinery production (weight of 28.04 per cent in the index) increased by 9.1 per cent in August 2021, while its cumulative index increased by 12.3 per cent during April-August 2021-22 .
Production of fertilisers (weight of 2.63 per cent in index) declined by 3.1 per cent in August 2021 while its cumulative production decreased by 1.5 per cent during April-August 2021-22 year-on-year.
Production of steel (weight of 17.92 per cent in index) increased by 5.1 per cent in August 2021 while cumulative steel production increased by 44.2 per cent during April-August 2021-22.
Production of cement (weight of 5.37 per cent in index) increased by 36.3 per cent in August 2021 while its cumulative production increased by 44.3 per cent during April-August 2021-22.
Electricity generation (weight of 19.85 per cent in index) increased by 15.3 per cent in August 2021 while its cumulative production increased by 15.2 per cent during April-August 2021-22.
