Jayalalithaa wants PM to's intervention over fishermen's arrests

Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene with Sri Lanka to help in securing the release of 14 fishermen who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The Tamil Nadu CM said in a letter to the Prime Minister, that three mechanised fishing boats with 14 fishermen on board were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy and taken to Talaimannar.

In her letter the Tamil Nadu chief minister also asked the prime minister to help evolve a permanent solution to the frequent arrests of fishermen by the Sri Lankn Navy.

She added that a time-bound action plan must be put in place to achieve a long-term and permanent solution to this vexatious problem, which is affecting the livelihood of lakhs of Tamil Nadu fishermen.
