India will achieve its overall revenue collection target for the 2013-14 fiscal year that ends in March next year, finance minister P. Chidambaram told reporters in New Delhi today.

India has in recent months stepped up enforcement of tax collections as it looks to raise revenue to help plug its widening fiscal deficit.

The government expects to mop up Rs13,300 crore through direct taxes and Rs4,700 crore through indirect taxes in 2013-14, according to the union budget document.
