India, Russia weigh comprehensive economic cooperation

India and the Russian Federation have decided to jointly study the possibility of a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement between India and the Belarus-Kazakhstan-Russia Custom Union.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the India-Russia annual summit also decided to explore the possibility of setting up a joint investment fund and to promote greater cooperation between the regions of the two countries.

The two sides reviewed the progress in the areas of civil nuclear energy, defence, space, oil and natural gas, science and technology, trade and investment, education and culture. A number of agreements have been signed in these areas.

India and Russia also concluded negotiations on the terms and conditions for the Russian state credit for units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam nuclear power project.

The two countries expressed satisfaction that several joint projects in the hydrocarbon, steel, mining, automobile, fertiliser and pharmaceutical sectors are currently being pursued.
