India's direct tax mop-up rises 23 per cent in H1-2011-12

Gross direct tax collection of the government rose 23 per cent to Rs257,042 crore during the first half of the current fiscal (April-September 2011-12) from Rs208,971 crore in the same period of the previous financial year (2010-11).

Gross corporate tax collections were up 23.17 per cent at Rs175,360 crore during April-September 2011-12 against Rs142,368 crore in the first half of the previous fiscal.

Personal income tax collections were up 22.65 per cent at Rs81,353 crore during the first half of the current fiscal against Rs66,330 crore in the previous fiscal.

Net direct tax collections stood at Rs194,812 crore, up from Rs181,758 crore in the same period last fiscal.

Direct tax collections had grown 15.51 per cent during the first half of the previous fiscal (2010-11) to Rs208,971 crore from Rs180,906 crore in the similar period of the previous fiscal.

Gross collection of corporate taxes was up 16.99 per cent at Rs142,368 crore during H1-2010-11 against Rs121,695 crore in FY2009-10.

Gross collection of personal income tax was up 12.47 per cent at Rs66,330 crore, against Rs58,974 crore in FY 2009-10.

Net direct tax collection was up 19.09 per cent year-on-year from Rs152,625 crore in FY 2009-10.
