India's food price inflation climbs further to 9.41 per cent

The annual rate of inflation in the country based on the wholesale price index of food prices rose further to 9.41 per cent during the week ended 24 September 2011, from 9.13 per cent during the previous week.

Inflation rate for the food articles group stood at 16.88 per cent during the comparable week of the previous year.

Build-up of inflation during the financial year (beginning 1 April 2011) was 10.39 per cent, against 9.91 per cent during the comparable week of the previous year.

The index for the 'food articles' group rose 0.2 per cent to 197.7 (provisional) during the week ended 24 September 2011, from 197.3 (provisional) in the previous week, due to higher prices of fish-inland (up 13 per cent), gram (up 4 per cent), ragi, egg, urad and condiments and spices (up 2 per cent each) and masur, moong, arhar, fruits and vegetables, rice, pork and barley (up 1 per cent each). However, the prices of fish-marine (down 14 per cent) and jowar, maize, tea, bajra and poultry chicken (up 1 per cent each) declined.

Inflation rate for the `non-food articles' group, however, declined to 10.77 per cent during the week ended 24 September 2011, from 12.89 per cent during the previous week. It was 24.73 per cent during the similar week of the previous year.

Build-up of inflation for the group during the financial year (beginning 1 April 2011) was -5.01 per cent against 9.16 per cent during the comparable week of the previous year.
