Consumer price inflation for industrial workers a tad lower at 8.62 per cent in June

Consumer price inflation based on the all-India (general) point to point rate of inflation for June 2011 stood lower at 8.62 per cent in June against 8.72 per cent in May 2011. Inflation based on the food price index, however, was also lower at 6.91 per cent in June2011 against 7.61 per cent in May 2011.

The all India consumer price index for industrial workers (CPI-IW) having base 2001=100 increased by two points and stood at 189 during the June 2011.

During the month, the index increased by 8 points in Doom Dooma Tinsukia centre, by 7 points in Rajkot centre, by 5 points each in Puducherry, Varanasi, Guwahati and Chandigarh centres, while it increased 4 points in 7 centres, 3 points in 8 centres, 2 points in 19 centres and 1 point in 20 centres.

The index decreased by 3 points in Ludhiana centre, by 2 points in Nasik centre and by 1 point in 6 centres, while in the remaining 10 centres the index remained stationary.
    
The maximum increase of 8 points in Doom Dooma Tinsukia centre was mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, mustard oil, pork, fish, country liquor, firewood, etc.

The increase of 7 points in Rajkot centre was due to increase in the prices of rice, groundnut oil, pure ghee, milk, pan, cooking gas, petrol, washing soap etc.

The increase of 5 points in Puducherry, Varanasi, Guwahati and Chandigarh centres was due to increase in the prices of  rice, mustard oil, fish, milk, pure ghee, vegetable and fruit items, tea (readymade), tailoring charges etc.
