Consumer price inflation for industrial workers up at 9.47 per cent in December

Consumer price inflation for industrial workers based on the all-India consumer price index (CPI) rose to 9.47 per cent in December 2010 from 8.33 per cent in November 2010, even as inflation based on the food index stood at 7.98 per cent in December 2010 against 5.35 per cent in November 2010.
The all-India consumer price index number for industrial workers (CPI-IW) having base 2001=100 increased 3 points and stood at 185 in December 2010.
During December 2010, the index recorded the highest increase of 9 points in Quilon centre, 8 points in Guntur, 7 points in Tiruchirapally, Vadodara and Belgaum centres, 6 points in 4 centres, 5 points in 6 centres, 4 points in 10 centres, 3 points in 16 centres, 2 points in 15 centres and 1 point in 8 centres.
The index decreased by 2 points each in Kodarma and Tripura centres, 1 point each in Durgapur, Ranchi Hatia and Ludhiana centres, while in the remaining 9 centres the index remained stationary.
The maximum increase of 9 points in Quilon centre was mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, coconut oil, fish, onion, vegetable and fruits, tea (readymade), firewood etc.
The increase of 8 points in Guntur centre was due to increase in the prices of rice, groundnut oil, onion, tamarind, vegetable and fruits etc.
