Consumer price inflation for industrial workers declines in November

The rate  of consumer price inflation based on the consumer price index for industrial workers in the country declined to 8.33 per cent in November 2010 from 9.7 per cent in October despite zooming food prices.

Inflation based on the food index also stood lower at 5.35 per cent in November 2010, against 7.73 per cent in October 2010.

The all-India consumer price index number for industrial workers (CPI-IW) with its base 2001=100 increased by one point and stood at 182 points in November 2010, official data showed.

During November 2010, the index recorded an increase of 6 points each in Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Tiruchirapally and Bhilai centres, 5 points each in Giridih, Coimbatore, Mariani Jorhat, Rourkela and Selam centres, 4 points each in four centres, 3 points each in 6 centres, 2 points each in 13 centres and 1 point each in 17 centres.

The index decreased by 4 points in the Ghaziabad centre, 2 points in Agra centre and 1 point in 11 centres, while in the remaining 16 centres the index remained stationary.

The maximum increase of 6 points each in Siliguri, Jamshedpur, Tiruchirapally and Bhilai centres was mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, mutton, onion, vegetable and fruit items, firewood, etc.
