Accenture, Mahindra Satyam among 3 agencies selected for `Aadhaar' implementation

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has selected three biometric solution providers and awarded contract to consortiums led by Accenture, Mahindra Satyam-Morpho and L1 Identity Solutions to implement the core biometric identification system in for the `Aadhaar' programme.

The `Adhar' programme will provide each Indian resident with a unique identification number - Aadhaar - that would enable easier, more efficient and secure access to welfare schemes. The programme is designed to confirm the identity of the 1.2 billion residents of India, making it the largest identity management programme in the world.

The initial phase of the contract will cover 200 million residents over a period of up to two years.

The entire selection process was completed in record time of three months and ensured selection of one of the lowest price bids for de-duplication, an official release said.

The programme will use a multi modal system and would provide for de-duplication transactions among the three agencies using a novel method.

The scope of work of the biometric solution providers will include design, supply, installation, commissioning, maintenance and support of multi-modal automatic biometric identification subsystem (ABIS) and multi-modal software development kit (SDK) for client enrollment station, verification server, manual adjudication and monitoring function of the UID application.
