The union ministry for MSME on Saturday said it has asked the centre to ensure that 20 per cent of the procurements of government departments, public sector undertakings and government-funded infrastructure projects were sourced from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).

According to secretary Dinesh Rai, the centre has been requested to ensure that all departments procured their requirements from the MSMEs. He was addressing a seminar on MSME and cluster development organised by the  Madurai District Tiny and Small Industries Association (MADITSSIA), Khadi and Village Industries Commission and District Industries Centre in Madurai last night.

He added that he had assured the space, defense and railway ministries that MSME products were of the best quality and the prime minister was also stressing the promotion of MSMEs as they provided jobs to the youth.

He added that MSMEs got 33 per cent more allocation in the last budget and it had been proposed to hike the share of loans for micro industries in the MSME segment from 45 to 60 per cent.

He added with the increase micro industries would get loans to the tune of Rs58,000 crore all over India.
