Direct tax mop-up rises 3.71 per cent in April-November

Net direct tax collection in the country during the first eight months of the current fiscal (April-November 2009-10) rose 3.71 per cent and stood at Rs1,83,822 crore, up from Rs1,77,251 crore in the same period last fiscal, official data showed.

Corporate tax collection rose 3.17 per cent to Rs1,13,210 crore in the April-November 2009-10 period from Rs1,09,735 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal, while personal income tax mop-up (including STT, and residual FBT and BCTT) grew 4.53 per cent to Rs70,262 crore from Rs67,215 crore.

Collection of securities transaction tax (STT) rose 4.44 per cent to Rs4,349 crore during April-November 2009 from Rs4,165 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal.

During November 2009, net direct tax collections stood at Rs10,375 crore against Rs10,346 crore in November 2008. Personal income tax collection during the month grew 23.8 per cent to Rs7,161 crore from Rs5,785 crore last fiscal while corporate tax collection recorded a negative growth of (-)29.5 per cent (Rs3,214 crore against Rs4,561 crore last fiscal).
