Modi inducts S Jaishankar, Amit Shah in new cabinet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inducted former foreign secretary and top diplomat S Jaishankar as the new minister of external affairs in place of Sushma Swraj who had indicated her inability to continue in an official capacity.
Nirmala Sitaraman, who was earlier defence minister, has been given charge of Finance, a portfolio she had earlier handles as minister of state while allocating the defence portfolio to Rajnath Singh who earlier handled the home ministry.
Amit Shah, the new entrant in the cabinet has been allocated the home portfolio while keeping the portfolios of almost all other ministers.
Jaishankar will now resign as the president of global corporate affairs at Tata Sons Private Limited.
The President of India, as advised by the prime minister, has directed the allocation of portfolios among the following members of the Union Council of Ministers, a press communique issued by the President’s office said
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be in charge of the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions; Department of Atomic Energy; Department of Space; and all important policy issues; and all other portfolios not allocated to any minister.
