The issue of illicit money stashed abroad by Indians dominated proceedings in the Lok Sabha today, with senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L K Advani leading the charge.

Pranab MukerjeeHowever, an adjournment motion on the issue moved by him was defeated in the house.

During the first adjournment motion in the current session of the Lok Sabha, Advani slammed the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government for not doing enough to bring back 'black' money stashed in tax havens abroad.

Following an agreement between the government and the BJP, the adjournment motion did not speak of ''government failure'', and was defeated by a majority in the house.

The discussion was followed by a voice vote which the government won.

The UPA had last week firmly resisted an adjournment motion on the issue of foreign investment in multi-brand retail, knowing that it would lose the ensuing vote as many of its member parties as well as some Congress members were firmly against the move.
