The Lok Sabha today turned down two cut motions proposed by the opposition parties against the budget proposals to increase the prices of fuels and fertilisers.

The ruling alliance defeated the two motions by 246 votes to 162 with help from the Yadavs - Mulayam Singh and Laloo Prasad - and Mayavati's BSP.

A determined opposition, meanwhile stalled Parliament and public life across several states on the issue of rise in prices of essential commodities.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourning for the day at noon and the Lok Sabha witnessing three adjournments.

Lalu Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav staged a walk out amidst the din in the House with Laloo Prasad refusing to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mayawati also extended support to the UPA in its hour of need.
