Headley interrogation yielding results: officials

New Delhi: A day after contradicting reports that Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative Daood Sayed Gilani, a.k.a David Coleman Headley, was stonewalling his interrogation by resorting to pleas under the Fifth Amendment, Indian government officials now suggest that he is being fully co-operative. Top government sources are reported as saying his interrogation by a National Investigating Agency (NIA) team is yielding specific details about the planning that went into the 26/11 Mumbai attacks as well as considerable insight into the Lashkar's India operations.
According to reports, LeT operative and 26/11 attack accused David Coleman Headley is providing detailed insights into the terror network in Pakistan and has fingered his Pakistani handlers Sajjid Mir, Syed Abdur Rehman Syed and Pakistani army intelligence agents Major Iqbal and Major Sameer Ali.
He has also talked about the involvement of Mohammed Illyas Kashmiri, a top Paksiatani terrorist and ranking al-Qaeda figure, in planning the Mumbai attacks and about Lashkar plans to target India.
The NIA team is led by IG-rank officer Lokanath Behera and comprises of two other superintendants of police and a legal officer.
Headley has shared details with the NIA team only after being reassured his revelations would not be used against him.
According to reports, Headley was initially questioned in the presence of FBI agents and his lawyers by the NIA team on 1-2 June in Chicago. The team has apparently been left alone after ground rules have been agreed upon and has been conducting interrogations since 3 June.
It is likely that the interrogation will be over by 9 June.
