New Delhi: Germany today said it was committed to supporting India's bid for a permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. Pitching for reforms, the German representative in India said the world body should ensure it reflects current geo-political realities and not those of WWII.

The German ambassador to India, Thomas Matussek, said both India and Germany are committed to supporting each other in their bid for a permanent membership in the Security Council of which both are non-permanent members now.

Matuseek unveiled the 'Delhi Buddy Bear', a symbol of cultural exchange, at the German embassy here as part of year-long celebrations to mark 60 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The buddy bear, designed by a student of the Delhi College of Art, will welcome visitors to the embassy, he said.

Talking of UNSC reforms, the ambassador said, "We are part of G-4 along with Brazil, India and Japan. The current Security Council reflects the geo-political realities of World War II. It does not reflect the current scenario."

"We feel that the Security Council, in its composition, should reflect the geo-political realities of the 21st century," he said.

On the issue of the MMRCA tender for which the Eurofighter Typhoon, built by four nations, including Germany, has been short-listed he avoided a direct response saying, "It has been kept confidential and kept in the right channels. I will refrain from making any public announcements," he said.
