Foiling a major terrorist plan ahead of the Amarnath Yatra to the south Kashmir Himalayas, the Border Security Force on Friday detected a cross-border tunnel at Allah Mai De Kothey near the international border with Pakistan in the R S Pura sector.

This is the third cross border tunnel emerging from the Pakistan side which has been detected by the BSF during the past five years. Earlier, two such tunnels were detected, one in Samba and the other in Akhnoor sector.

Significantly, the latest tunnel has been detected only two months after terrorists from Pakistan attacked the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot. Officials of the BSF confirmed detection of the tunnel, but said that details were awaited as senior officials have not returned from the spot.

Sources however said that the tunnel had come 100 metres into Indian territory. It was detected by a BSF party patrolling the border. Excavators and other machines have been rushed to the spot to dig out the trails of the tunnel which appear to be coming from Pakistan side.
