IT giant Infosys and industry conglomerate Tata Group have outranked global giants like Google and Facebook to emerge as the top brands respectively in India, according to a new survey.

The survey published by London-based consulting firm TLG Communications, in partnership with GlobeScan, reveals that Indian corporates outnumber their global counterparts in the top 20 list.

Seven of the top 10 brands in the list are Indian corporates with manufacturing and civil engineering companies leading the index.

Maruti Suzuki, the biggest car manufacturer in India, is fourth on the list. Engineering major, Larsen and Toubro is fifth on the list while the Mahindra Group is ranked 10th.

The consulting firm had asked government ministers, directors of blue chip companies and newspaper editors to identify corporate brands - termed as thought leaders - with the power to change the attitudes and behaviour of consumers, employees or politicians.

The three global firms that have made an impact in India are Google, Nokia and Facebook, which ranked third, sixth and eighth respectively.
