ITV News-China Earthquake (UK) wins news and current affairs category at Emmy

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today the 2009 International Emmy Awards winners for its news and current affairs categories.

The ITV News-China Earthquake coverage for the UK, of the biggest earthquake in China in the last 30 years capturing the terrifying ordeal of the survivors, won the News Category.

Dispatches - Saving Africa's Witch Children, a Special produced by Red Rebel Films and Oxford Scientific Films for Channel 4 (UK) depicting the plight of Nigerian children accused of being witches, won the current affairs category.

The International Emmys were presented to the winners by Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York City last week.

''We congratulate the international reporters and production teams behind these two riveting stories for achieving the difficult task of giving a voice to human drama while crossing cultural boundaries.'' said Bruce L. Paisner, president & CEO of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Nominees for ten other International Emmy Awards categories will be announced 5 October at Mipcom in Cannes, France. Winners will receive their awards at the 37th International Emmy Awards Gala, November 23, in New York City.
