20 Jan 2011
Bangalore: India's indigenously developed attack helicopter, the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), will make a demonstration flight at the upcoming AeroIndia show here, to be held from 9-13 February.
Developed by aerospace giant the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, the LCH conducted its first test flight in March last year. It is due for induction into the Indian Army and Air Force in the period 2012-13.
The LCH had its second and third flights in April and May of 2010 and has, by now, conducted over 20 test flights. With the flight parameters of the model successfully tested the model is now undergoing a weaponisation programme.
Two prototypes are in existence and two more under construction.
HAL commenced work on the LCH programme in 2006. The LCH is a derivative of the Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv, which is already serving with the armed forces.
HAL has secured tentative orders for the LCH from the army and the air force to which it is likely to supply to100 and 65 units respectively.
