16 May 2008
New Delhi: Embroiled in what has threatened to become an escalating controversy, between the Planning Commission and the ministry for civil aviation, Delhi IGI airport's private developer, the GMR group, has now informed the government that it needs its help in order to complete the Rs8,975 crore airport project by 2010.
According to GMR, as many as 14 issues holding up progress on the development of the airport are beyond its control.
Some of the issues holding up progress on the execution of the international terminal, include restrictions in carrying out some demolition and construction activities, as well as the lack of immigration and security staff and X-ray machines for existing counters.
The problem is only set to worsen with new counters opening for service by June.
According to reports, GMR officials have made a detailed presentation consisting of nearly five dozen slides, pointing out the restrictions under which they operate.
