RAK Airways eyes additional routes in south India

Dubai: UAE-based airline RAK Airways is plugging for permissions to increase its services to destinations in south India, in particular to the southern state of Kerala. A delegation, headed by RAK Airways CEO Omar Jahameh , met chief minister Oomen Chandy in this regard.
RAK Airways seeking additional services to Kochi, Trivandrum and Mangalore, a statement said.
The meeting with Chandy was to seek approvals for operating to the cities mentioned earlier, Jahameh said.
The airline currently operates flights to Calicut.
"Due to the heavy demand, the frequency of flights to Calicut was quickly increased to five flights a week from the initial three," Jahameh said
"From a business perspective, we highlighted to the minister that the UAE is an excellent investment destination for India. Already more than 1,000 Indian companies are operating out of Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone alone, where the majority of investors are from Kerala, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad," he added.
Jahameh said the UAE is home to more than two million Indians of whom almost 25 per cent live and work in the northern emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
