OpenAI postpones the custom GPT store launch to early 2024

Initially unveiled during OpenAI's inaugural developer conference in November 2023, the custom GPTs and accompanying store were originally slated for release later that same month. However, the company has opted to extend the timeline, citing an ongoing commitment to "making improvements" to the GPTs based on valuable customer feedback, as outlined in the internal memo.

The delay unfolds amid the backdrop of notable leadership changes at the startup. OpenAI experienced a surprising leadership shift with the ouster of CEO Sam Altman, subsequently followed by his reinstatement in response to employee threats to resign.
