Competition Commission of India (CCI) has proposed to launch a market study to understand the ecosystem around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its transformative influence on the market.

CCI has proposed to engage an agency for undertaking the study and has asked prospective agencies/institutions to submit their proposals latest by 5:00 pm on 3 June 2024.

Since AI has significant pro-competitive potential, CCI feels it necessary to have a better understanding of the type and extent of competition likely to emanate from the use of AI.

The proposed study will be more of an exercise in information building for gaining in-depth understanding of the dynamics in the development of AI systems and the effect of AI applications on competition, efficiency and innovation in user  industries, says a CCI release

The study will focus on the key AI systems and markets/ecosystems thereof, including stakeholders, essential inputs, value chains and market structures to understand the parameters for assessing competition.

It will also assess emerging and potential competition issues in the AI ecosystems, as also the scope and nature of AI applications, market opportunities and associated risks.

The study will also cover existing and evolving regulatory frameworks for AI systems and applications in India and other markets by reaching out to all relevant stakeholders.
