B Krishnakumar, assistant editor of The Week, passed away in Kochi on Tuesday evening after a prolonged illness. He was suffering from a brain tumour, which brought about his demise at the relatively early age of 52. He is survived by his wife.

Krishnakumar was an active and popular senior member of the Mumbai press club, where he was affectionately known as 'Krishna'. Before his illness, he was vice-chairman of the managing committee and did much to promote the club's development.

Professionally, Krishnakumar did a long stint as The Week's Mumbai bureau chief. Before that, he worked with West Coast Times in Goa, The Free Press Journal, The Times of India (Ahmedabad), and the now defunct The Daily.
