Prominent B-school and CA''s body organise independent directors'' course

Mumbai: The Bombay Chartered Accountants' Society (BCAS) and the S P Jain Institute of Management Studies and Research (SPJIMR) have organised a course on independent directors Studies.

The six-weekend course will commence from August 27, 2005. Designed for individuals, this programme has been developed to meet the corporate governance norms through independent directors as required by the revised clause 49.

Technical and behavioural components of independent director will be discussed. The faculty comprises Anil Singhvi, of Gujarat Ambuja, Keval Handa, managing director, Pfizer, Nawshir Mirza, a professional independent director and lawyer Zia Mody. This ensures that the course will be led by leading professional directors, lawyers, accountants, academicians, corporate strategists and group psychology experts.

Sanjeev Pandit, the president of BCAS says, "With clause 49 of the Listing Agreement becoming more important with regard to corporate governance - and being at par with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, there will be demand for independent directors. This course will help to create a bank of such trained professionals who are better equipped to take such responsibilities."
